I love quotes. While not true for everyone, a good quote at the right time helps me focus and gets me fired up. Here are some quotes on evangelism that have meant a lot to me. Perhaps you have others to add:

  1. “It is the duty of every Christian to be Christ to his neighbor.” Martin Luther
  2. “If the saving of souls, your neighbour’s souls, many souls, from everlasting misery, be worth your labor, up and be doing!” Richard Baxter, The Reformed Pastor
  3. “You have one business on Earth – to save souls.” John Wesley
  4. “Preach the gospel, die forgotten.” Zinzendorf
  5. “God forbid that I should travel with anybody a quarter of an hour and not speak of Christ to them.” George Whitefield
  6. “Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell; I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell.” C. T. Studd
  7. “The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose”. C. S. Lewis
  8. “The gospel is only good news if it gets there in time.” Carl F. H. Henry
  9. A schoolmate of Matt Chandler’s with the locker next to his: “I need to tell you about Jesus. When do you want to do that?” Explicit Gospel
  10. And the grand finale, the quote from Spurgeon I use in my evangelism classes:
  • “I would rather be the means of saving a soul from death than to be the greatest orator on earth. I would rather bring the poorest woman in the world to the feet of Jesus than I would be the Archbishop of Canterbury. I would sooner pluck one single brand from the burning than explain all the mysteries. To win a soul from going down into the pit, is a more glorious achievement than to be crowned in the arena of theological controversy. . .One of my happiest thoughts is that, when I die, it shall be my privilege to enter into rest into the bosom of Christ, and I know I shall not enjoy Heaven alone. Thousands have entered there, who have been drawn to Christ under my ministry.”   Charles Spurgeon

On Easter eve, it’s good to think of telling good news.
