Hi and welcome! I am Alvin Reid, a follower of Jesus Christ, husband to Michelle, father of Josh and Hannah, and minister of the gospel. I teach at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Southeastern College at Wake Forest in NC. I love people and have been blessed to meet a lot. I live to equip a generation of young men and women to change the world, to advance the great movement of God in our time. For the Christ follower, life is a mission trip-take it!

I often ask my students how many of them made a profession of faith and/or were baptized, only to realize later they truly met Christ after that early experience. The numbers vary somewhere between a third to two-thirds from class to class. Pastor J.D. Greear has tackled this sometimes dicey subject in his excellent new book with the (perhaps more than necessarily) provocative title, “Stop Asking Jesus into Your Heart.” While the title is eye-catching, the subtitle gets to the meat of the book: “How to Know for Sure You Are Saved.”  J.D. tackles the issue of assurance of salvation while dealing with other topics of import today such as the “Sinners Prayer.”

J.D. writes as a pastor to his own flock, much in the manner of some of the books I have enjoyed by J.D.’s admitted hero, Tim Keller. The reason my favorite all-time book on apologetics is Keller’s “Reason for God” is its pastoral flavor. While on a very different topic, J.D.’s writing helps any believer — and they are legion — who struggles with assurance of salvation.

I encourage pastors to get this book as you know this topic matters greatly to your people. And, I encourage believers, and in particular parents, to learn from its pages. It is hardback and available at amazon here.
